Washington DC – Monuments and Presidents

We visited all 26 NPS sites in the greater Washington DC area in one jam packed week this summer with our grandson.  We have been to DC many times, but seeing it through someone else’s eyes, especially a child’s eyes, brings a fresh experience. Seeing all of the NPS sites in one visit, including manyContinue reading “Washington DC – Monuments and Presidents”

Virgin Islands NP

Virgin Islands NP is one of five NPS sites scattered around three of the islands in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The logistics were a complicating factor. Our visit was a celebrationContinue reading “Virgin Islands NP”

Cape Lookout National Seashore

One might wonder why we did not go to Cape Lookout when we were “in the neighborhood” – visiting the other coastal NPS sites in NC. The answer is that Cape Lookout is hours and hours out of the way from just about anywhere. Plus, a ferry ride is required, and we needed to rentContinue reading “Cape Lookout National Seashore”

We delighted in visiting the Sandburg residence, the goat farm, sheds, and rolling pastures.Continue reading “Carl Sandburg Home NHS”

Poverty Point NM and UNESCO World Heritage Site

The name Poverty Point doesn’t give us any clue as to why the site is so noteworthy that it was selected to be a World Heritage Site. For background, there are only 23 World Heritage Sites in the entire U.S. (Everglades, Grand Canyon, Great Smoky Mountains, etc.), and only three others are archaeological sites. PovertyContinue reading “Poverty Point NM and UNESCO World Heritage Site”
