Today we drove up for a day trip to Kentucky’s largest city, Louisville, to visit their most famous attractions, Churchill Downs and the Louisville Slugger Museum. Joe was in charge of the itinerary, and he really hit a home run on this one.
We signed up for a factory tour at the Louisville Slugger Museum and saw the 120 foot tall World’s Largest bat, life-like statues of former MLB players, and the special procedures involved in creating custom bats for major league players. We especially loved seeing Braves player Ron Acuna’s bat!
After researching the food that Louisville is know for, we just had to find a Hot Brown. It is basically an open-face turkey sandwich with bacon and tomato that is smothered in a yummy mornay sauce. Oh my goodness! It was amazing. Our appetizer was their famous green chili wonton appetizer. Don’t miss this spot for lunch. It is right down from the Slugger Museum.
Churchhill Downs was a must see on our Kentucky trip.
We purposefully chose a tour that would take us past the paddocks and out to the racetrack. We learned a lot about previous Derby winners, especially the 13 Triple Crown winners.
Our Bourbon and Bridle tour included a tutorial on making a mint julep.
These sites aren’t national parks…. yet. But we sure had a good time in Louisville anyway.
